King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) was established by Royal Decree No. 31 of 2010, which stated that the Hospital will be affiliated to the Bahrain Defense Force,
provided that it will offer its services to all citizens. The Hospital will also provide medical services employing best therapeutic and administrative practices and academic and research services, with an independent budget attached to the Bahrain Defense Force's budget. President of the Supreme Council for Health, supervised its affairs in conjunction with the General Command of the Bahrain Defense Force, led by Major General (Dr.) Shaikh Salman Bin Ateyatalla Al Khalifa, King Hamad University Hospital Chief Executive Officer, and administered by an executive team who managed the project until the official opening day.
KHUH employees are appointed based on Bahrain Defense Force criteria of efficiency, academic and practical experience. Employment strategy plan is built on transferring advanced foreign know-how and technology to achieve the highest levels of excellence and total reliance on Bahraini nationals in accordance with a well-defined plan.
King Hamad Hospital is a university hospital, Located in Muharraq- Kingdom of Bahrain, with a capacity of311 beds and 1952 employees. This medical facility is a one hundred and twenty-seven thousand square meters, characterized by its prestigious and elegant design. The hospital consists of nine internal wards, nine digitalized operating theaters equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology and the most sophisticated (OR1) systems, an intensive care unit with a capacity of 12 beds, and a Pediatric ward. It has a variety of medical departments, services and units namely Out- patient, Private practice, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopedics, general surgery and bariatric surgery where we performed all type of bariatric procedures and KHUH consider as referral center for complicated bariatric cases in the region. There is also a Physiotherapy Hydrotherapy unit and an Emergency Unit that operates 24 hours’ days a week, which accommodates 28 beds ready to receive emergency cases.
