Center of Excellence for study and treatment of obesity and diabetes

Our Center has a long history in the field of the study and treatment of obesity and metabolic diseases, both in the pre-laparoscopic era and later when in the early nineties we incorporated some of the pioneering laparoscopic techniques that are now routinely carried out.

The actual Center of Excellence for Study and Treatment of Obesity and Diabetes, was created as a private Institution in the 2000 with extensive experience in restrictive, mixed and malabsorbtive techniques. In 2002 Dr. Carbajo modified the technique known as Mini Gastric Bypass and developed a new method called One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB). After performing different studies our Center decided to use the OAGB as the main bariatric procedure.
In 2003 we were pioneers in incorporating the first European robotic arm. In 2010 the branch of our Center at the ABC Santa Fe Hospital in Mexico City was opened for Latin America, led by Dr. Enrique Luque- de-Leon.
We also starting and contributing to the development of the EAC-BS being aware of the great importance that this Institution has to guarantee the quality and impartial central database for the whole world scientific community. The data of our patients were introduced since January 1, 2010 and we continue doing it with special dedication to date. In August 2011 we were one of the first 11 Centers accredited by the EAC-BS during the IFSO Congress in Hamburg. Dr. Carbajo is also member of the International Committee for Accreditation for Centers of Excellence.
Currently our Center represents an integrated Unit of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery formed by a same surgical team with almost 30 years of experience in Bariatric Surgery, state of the art technology, radiology and interventional endoscopy as well as professionals specialized in medical nutrition, psychology and bariatric psychiatry, as well as sanitarians technicians specializing in follow-up of the patients. Education and training is carried out continuously with over 170 surgeons trained in the last years. Researching, publishing and being an active part of the scientific community is our commitment and patients our spirit.
